Good art like music plays forever and I endeavor to create imaginative, spiritual and individual work that does not lose its potency over time. I believe the space between the brushstrokes is where intuition liberates the intellect. Both are essential. My predominantly medium and large scale paintings in acrylic medium on canvas, explore unusual lighting, transparency, abstraction, universality, movement, colour and connections between them. These simple notions provide both the grand gestures and the details of my work. I am also interested in the universal human responses and relationships to natural landscapes, water and the beauty of natural geometries. I am well known for three dominant themes, Forest Light Series, Shorelines Series and City and Country Gardens and recently a new theme Wetlands. Other works include internationally award winning watercolours and plein air small works.

Bev Rodin Description

Catherine Beverly Rodin is an internationally collected Canadian artist known for her distinctive paintings of light and atmosphere on canvas and in watercolour. Bev exhibits her works in galleries across Canada and her paintings can be found in public, corporate and private collections in North America, Australia, Japan, Mexico, France, Luxembourg, Barbados, Bermuda, Shanghai and the UK.

Bev began her art career in Port Cartier, Quebec. Her subject matter is inspired by living in many parts of Canada and traveling overseas, as well as gardening, hiking, canoeing and observing the interiors of her home and studio. "As a painter, I am interested in unusual lighting effects, particularly backlighting and dappled light, and I work with rich, elegant colour groupings and thin coloured glazes in an attempt to achieve the effect I am seeking."

Bev graduated with an M.A. in visual communication and a PhD from OISE at the University of Toronto. Bev has worked with international artists at the Atelier du Seguret in Provence and was awarded an artist residency at the Leighton Studios at the Banff Centre.

Bev is a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor and the Ontario Society of Artists. She was awarded the prestigious International Artist Landscape Award by the Banff Centre in 2005.
